What is SmartField?

The SmartField Platform is a closed-loop video capture and ingest system that meets the requirements of the NFL and NCAA and Power4 conferences for gamedays and practices. The platform consists of:

  • control systems — local to camera, control room or remote
  • Insite — control room workflow tools that standardize day-to-day video operations
  • Accessories to manage resources for operating your video system.

SmartField GameDay is engineered for stadiums and the live, fast-paced action of gameday shooting. PracticeField is built for the challenges of multiple weather conditions and variables of shooting practice for indoor and outdoor facilities.

SmartField for Practice Fields

Practice fields offer unique challenges when designing a SmartField system — weather, potential to quickly change between indoor and outdoor fields, simultaneously shooting multiple locations, off-site control, etc. 8K Solutions custom designs each system to meet the specific conditions of the location and the needs of the team. And we back it with service no one in the business offers.

Indoor practice fields are tailor-made for PTZ cameras with the typically small aprons, lack of space to safely place lifts, and cost of catwalks. 8K Solutions has installed dozens of IPF and bubble camera systems that feature:

  • Renderings of precise camera field of view for exact camera placement and optimum field coverage
  • 8K Solutions custom fabric weld for bubble mounting
  • 8K Solutions HD 100 for bubbles to stabilize and level the camera, compensating for bubble movement
  • Local case-mount control systems or control from the video room

SmartField Control Room

SmartField consolidates all practice fields assets and allows control from a single unit.

The SmartField Control Room used by Boston College Football is in a beige collored room. Computer monitors and joystick camera controllers and switchers sit atop desks with monitors.
